Mentoring Program
The Leadership Program (1 year - February to November)  

The Leadership Program is unique. An intensive and rigorous course it has been specially designed to suit the broadest cross section of disabilities.  Entrance to the Program requires applicants to exhibit both potential for and interest in leadership, civic contribution and social action.  We look for those who can demonstrate:

·         Leadership achievements that show a broad positive impact

·         Connections generated between individuals with disabilities and others in the community and “mainstream community.

·         A positive vision for Australian/Victorian society that has a place for people with disabilities and leaders with a disability;

·         Potential to contribute at a national, state or regional level.

·         Commitment to the Program

·         That others around them recognize their leadership capacity.

Within the Program participants explore a diverse range of themes and ideas within a 3 component framework:

·         Personal Awareness: personality analysis (Myers Briggs), reflection and individual coaching.

·         Technical skills: chairing, public presentations, giving and receiving feedback, effective questioning, working in teams. 

·         Leadership: theory, principles, case studies, site visits and combined seminars with other community leadership programs.

Program Objectives

The following are the overall objectives for the Leadership Program:

·         To provide a learning environment tailored to the learning needs of people with disabilities.

·         To develop leadership capacities of people with disabilities to contribute to all 4 major sectors: community, academic, government and commercial.

·         To progress the career paths of people with disabilities who are in work.

·         To further develop the contribution/value of people with disabilities in voluntary capacities.

·         To provide leadership accreditation and ongoing post-secondary education.

·         To provide a base level leadership set of competencies that enables people with disabilities to participate in mainstream leadership programs.

The Program extends over 12 months, commencing with a 3-day Opening/Orientation Workshop followed by eight two-day seminars. It delivers and provides an accredited set of leadership competencies for approximately 20 participants. Our major delivery partner in the Leadership Program is RMIT with the financial support from a range of other organisations including ANZ Trustees and Tattersall’s. The seminars are sponsors  by a range of businesses, Government Departments and Statutory Authorities. In addition organizations and sectors sponsor individuals with the expectation they will benefit through the enhanced leadership capabilities of those they support.
